Commissioned by Synchroon and AM and in collaboration with KCAP, Nauta and Monk architects, Flux is working on the design of a sub-area with 4 building blocks in the Merwedekanaalzone. The Merwedekanaalzone is an important location for densification in Utrecht and is an exemplary project in terms of climate, green and mobility. Flux has worked on a study for a climateadaptive design of the Merwedekanaalzone before, commissioned by the Province of Utrecht, Waterschap and the municipality of Utrecht. The urban design has been made by Bura urbanism.
Jonas Papenborg of Flux landscape architecture, can be seen in the documentary Groene Golven. The documentary is about climate change in the Waddenlandscape. Jonas tells about the plan The Eatable Waddencoast of Flux, whereby the Waddencoast is transformed in 2100 into a broad coastal zone with room for flora and fauna and a rich food production. The project is part of the exhibition Sponsland in Groningen.
Flux will start working on the Holtland project in 2021. Holtland is a research by design into new forms of productive forest in the Netherlands. Flux sees a high level of abstraction in existing research on forests and therefore considers it valuable to further investigate the planting of forests in the Netherlands, with a focus on a diversity in forest types, a strong relationship with current major transitions in the Netherlands and a concrete spatial design. The project consists of three parts: a forest book with forests of the future, a number of case studies and an alternative forest vision for the Netherlands. Four case studies have been set up with specific locations and the stakeholders of the Province of Utrecht, WWF, Synchroon and Staatsbosbeheer. The project was financed by the Stimuleringsfonds and made possible by co-financing from several parties. The sounding board for the research consists of Berno Strootman (Government Advisor Landscape, involved in the forest strategy for LNV), Kees Hendriks (researcher Alterra Wageningen forest) and Martijn Boosten (researcher and advisor at the Probos foundation).
There is still room to add case studies to the project! For more information about the project please contact us at info@fluxlandscape.nl
Project Edible Waddencoast part of exposition Act& Adapt Groningen
Nine landscape architects from the Netherlands and abroad took up the challenge to design the future landscape of Groningen. They sought for climate adaptive solutions at several locations in this unique landscape. All locations are located in a proverbial slice of cake between Schiermonnikoog and Zuidlaren. Roughly located in the flow valley of the Drentse Aa and the Hunze: the rivers that have largely formed Groningen. Flux has been working on the coastal zone of the Waddensea, all plans can be seen in the exposition of Sponsland

Flux is working on project ‘Nieuwe Hallen’ The Hague
In collaboration with MEI architects, Flux is working on the design for the Nieuwe Hallen (The New Halls) in The Hague. The characteristic industrial halls in The Hague district De Binckhorst, that have been proclaimed in 2018 to be industrial heritage, now will be transformed into a dynamic and healthy living- and working space. A network of public squares and streets connects various places in the area and characterizes itself by a green design with high quality to stay for pedestrians or cyclists. The programme of De Nieuwe Hallen will be supplemented with horeca and small creative activity, to increase the liveliness of the area. Commissioned by Duijnstede Beheer BV and in collaboration with the municipality of The Hague.
Flux has worked on the HWBP project book and conducted a design study into dikes and circularity. Circularity is an important theme for HWBP Program. That is why the designers of Flux landscape architecture were asked to take a fresh look at this theme. In a design study, they explore the impact of the broad concept of circularity and sketch possible scenarios for a circular dyke of the future. In collaboration with graphic designers Koehorst in't Veld and copywriter Sofia Opfer.

Flux’ design of the NPD area in Utrecht, is in progress. The urban, dynamic side combined with the lee green quality, provides important starting notions for the design in which energetic, inspiring, socially sustainable places and encounters, and the local economy are central. Commissioned by AM and in collaboration with NL architects, Paul de Ruiter architects and the municipality of Utrecht.
The area between Nieuwegein, Houten and Utrecht (known as the A12 zone) is threatened to be developed as a new housing location. Flux presents an alternative plan for the area, in which the potential as landscape park and ‘green lung’ for the metropole region of Utrecht will be fully exploited. Flux presents this alternative (and unrequested) plan through the newsletter of the Utrecht Provincial Advisor Spatial Quality (PARK) Paul Roncken.
Team FSD, with VMX and Flux landscape architecture, wins the tender for Coolhaven Rotterdam. The project area of 'Coolbase' will be developed into a green park at the Coolhaven in Rotterdam. The team has developed a design, including a new housing program and a high-quality waterfront park with an industrial character.
